Privacy Policy — Translate for X (Twitter)
Effective Date: October 12, 2026
This policy describes how the Chrome extension "Translate for X (Twitter)" ("the Extension") handles information. The Extension is made by the developer of Search Hub (searchhub.one).
In short: the Extension does not upload post text to the developer or a translation server for its on-device translation. When you choose the optional Google Translate link, up to 4,500 characters of that post are included in the URL opened with Google. Chrome may download language models separately. The Extension does not automatically send diagnostic reports; if you choose to contact us, review your message before sending it.
This policy describes what the Extension does. It does not describe what X or Chrome themselves do.
1. Data Collection
The Extension has no developer-operated server, accounts, advertising, or analytics. It reads and processes post text locally to provide translations and stores settings and dictionary entries locally in Chrome. The Extension does not automatically upload those contents to the developer. If you choose the optional Google Translate link, post text is included in the URL opened with Google. If you send us an email, your message and email address are received through your chosen mail service (section 3).
What the Extension handles, and where it stays:
- The text of posts on X. The Extension reads the text of the posts shown on the page in order to translate it. The translation is made on your computer by the translator built into Chrome. The Extension does not send this text to the developer or to a translation server for its translation, and does not keep it: translations are held in the page's memory while the page is open and are gone when you close or reload it.
- The language of a post. Where X does not say which language a post is in, the Extension asks the language detector built into Chrome, also on your computer. Posts in languages Chrome's translator does not support are not translated.
- Your settings. The language to translate into, the look of the translation, the on/off switches, the languages you do not want translated, your personal dictionary of corrections, and a count of translated posts. These are saved on your computer with Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local). The Extension does not synchronise them and does not send them anywhere. Removing the Extension deletes them. Copies of your Chrome profile that you or your backup tools make are outside the Extension's control.
- What you write in "Reply in their language". Your words are translated on your computer and, when you ask for it, written into X's own reply box. The Extension never presses the send button; you do. What you wrote is kept in the page's memory so that it is not lost if the box closes, and it is gone when you close or reload the page. If the reply box cannot be written to, the translated text is placed on your clipboard so that you can paste it yourself. The Extension never reads your clipboard.
- Listen. The translation is read aloud by a voice installed on your computer. If your computer has no such voice for your language, "Listen" is not shown. Nothing is sent anywhere for it.
2. Permissions
- storage: to save your settings, your dictionary and the count of translated posts on your computer.
- Access to x.com and twitter.com: content scripts run only on x.com and twitter.com, to read the text of posts, show the translation under them and, at your request, write your translated reply into X's reply box. Optional external links open only when you click them.
3. Third-Party Services
The Extension uses no third-party service by itself. Three things can involve another party, each only by your own action or by Chrome itself:
- Chrome's language models. Chrome may download language models separately, the first time a language is needed. That download is made by Chrome, not by the Extension, and is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy for Chrome.
- The optional "Google Translate" link. Under each translation, and under posts in languages Chrome cannot translate yet, there is a link to Google Translate. When you choose it, a separate Google page opens in a new tab with up to 4,500 characters of that post in its URL. Google's privacy policy applies to that page. You can switch the link off in the Extension's window.
- "Report a problem or an idea" and "Contact us". These open a new message in the mail service you choose, addressed to us. A problem report can prefill technical status information, not the post text by default. You can review, edit or delete the message before sending it from your chosen mail service. Your email address and message are received only if you send them. We use them only to answer you.
The Extension also contains links to its page in the Chrome Web Store and to searchhub.one. They are ordinary links and open only when you click them.
4. Data Security
Because the Extension has no server and sends nothing to the developer by itself, the developer holds no copy of your settings, your dictionary or the posts you read. The only things the developer may hold are messages you chose to send; they are kept in the developer's mailbox and used only to answer you. What the Extension saves is saved by Chrome on your computer, under your Chrome profile.
5. Limited Use
The Extension's handling of information is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Post text is processed to provide translation and related user-requested features. The Extension does not use post text for advertising or sell it. The developer does not receive post text automatically. If you choose the optional Google Translate link, text is included in the URL opened with Google (section 3). The developer may read support messages you choose to send to respond to you.
6. Children
The Extension is a general tool and is not directed at children.
7. Changes to This Policy

9. Independence and Official Listing
The Extension is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by X Corp. The only official source of the Extension is its page in the Chrome Web Store.
